Uncle Austin

What started as a subtle and petty dispute between Mico and Uncle Austin has now escalated into an uncontrollable feud that is generating headlines all over. From radio stations to celebrity and social websites, the names Mico the Best and Austin are dominating, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

Reason? The self-proclamation that each one of them holds the upper hand in Afro Beat music.

The scenario got uglier at the weekend during Urban Boyz’ album launch when Uncle Austin took to the stage to claim he was king of Afro beat, this coming shortly after Mico had made similar remarks, sparking a row that has dragged on since then. Earlier this year Mico had claimed he was the king of kings in Afro beat, while Austin, responding to the remarks, accused him of being out of touch with the current affairs in music industry.

Mico The Best

It’s a tussle that is likely to go on forever. While referring to both Mico and Uncle Austin, former Primus Guma Guma Super Star nominee Senderi International Hit couldn’t help laughing – and perhaps causing laughter at the same time – when he alleged that the two were still undergrounds who need to more than concentrate on their music rather than toss words at each other.

He said, “They both know I am better than them. They should instead concentrate on their music rather than focus on endless jabber.”
