Afro beat singer Uncle Austin has been arrested by the Rwandan Police for allegations of issuing a bounced cheque.
According to reliable sources, Austin was arrested on Monday, shortly after leaving the studios of KFM where he works as a radio presenter. Sources close to the star have revealed to tukabyine.com that the cheque issued by him was worth five hundred Rwandan francs.
According to the source, Austin owed the aforementioned money to a broker who helped him purchase a vehicle. The money was to serve as a broker fee, but since the singer did not have cash with him, he preferred to issue a cheque which bounced at the bank when the latter went to deposit it. It is then that the broker sought the intervention of police authorities who summoned Uncle Austin.
But to the dismay of the broker, the police contacted Austin several times to come forward but he defied the authorities, leading to a warrant of arrest being issued against him. He was then arrested in order to answer to the charges.
If found guilty, Austin faces from two to five years in jail as stipulated by article 373 of the penal code of the Republic of Rwanda.
