Young people living in Kayonza town, Eastern Province of Rwanda have expressed their discontent due to lack of entertainment facilities in their area.
They say that this has denied them to enjoy themselves and to have fun especially during holidays.
Claude Niyibizi lives in Kayonza:”There is no night club around here.”
The youth say largely this is because there is no house for entertainment in town, and it is asking the authorities to put in effort so that the youth can always meet for entertainment and exchange ideas.
The youth complain that most celebrities don’t often visit Kayonza town and even those who come lack space where to organize their functions.
Urban Boyz group who recently went to Kayonza also said they feel disappointed when they visit places that lack enough space to entertain a large audience of their fans.
The coordinator of the national youth council at district level, Murengezi Jean Baptiste says that even though young people don’t get entertainment services as they wish, there are some activities like football tournaments which are organized in order to keep them busy during holidays.
Murengezi attributed the problem of scarce entertainment facilities to limited financial resources.
