Mariah Carey’s producer was discovered dead on Thursday morning outside his apartment in the Bronx, New York City, with a gun close to his body.
The hip-hop producer Chris Lighty, 44, had been going through a turbulent divorce at the time of his death according to American tabloids.
It is estimated that the celebrated producer was struggling financially, allegedly owing around 3million pounds to the IRS.
US police who arrived at the scene claim Lighty shot himself following a heated row with his estranged wife Veronica.
Police sources say he declared “I’m tired of this” after the bust-up before killing himself.
Producer Chris has produced sons for heavyweight musicians including 50 cent, Maria, Ice T who is now a movie star legend.
In a statement, rapper 50 Cent said: “Chris has been an important part of my business and personal growth for a decade.
“He was a good friend and adviser who helped me develop as an artist and businessman and My prayers are with his family” 5O Cent revealed to American tabloid.
Rihanna also twittered: “Rest peacefully Chris Lighty, my prayers go out to family and loved ones! Dear God please have mercy.”
Nicki Minaj wrote: “Another tragic & inconceivable loss for the culture. #RIPChrisLighty.”
Lighty left two children and was an established player on the hip-hop scene. In addition to 50 Cent, Diddy and Carey, he also worked with stars such as Ja Rule, LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes.
American music industry has lost important characters this year including Natty Dog, a legend of hip hop from west coast side.
