Afro Beat singer Uncle Austin has slammed the annual Salax Awards and described them as too predictable and accused the organizers of lack of respect for musicians.
Austin, who had been previously nominated in the Best Afro beat category before pulling out, spoke of disappointment after his album Nzakwizirikaho was snubbed in the best album category.
“This clearly shows you how predictable these awards are. There is no question that my album is one of the best, but how they (Ikirezi Group) failed to spot it, I don’t know. It’s the same trend year in year out; we know what they are up to,” lamented Austin.
Uncle Austin is not the first musician to criticize the Salax Awards. Others are Tom Close, Dream Boyz, Jay Polly and Knowless all having walked out on them. Meanwhile Ikirezi Group Ltd have threatened to ban indefinitely any musician who boycotts this year’s awards, saying that they will not be eligible for entry in future should they decide to withdraw from them.
Already Tom Close has issued a stern warning that his name and products should not be associated in any way with Salax Awards lest the two parties be settled by the courts of law.
