This occurred in Rusizi where the competition’s country tour road shows started over the weekend by all 11 artists contesting for Primus Guma Guma Super Star III.

The female artist of the year 2012 first led the crowd with a prayer before performing her killer songs like Nzabampari, Rejoice and Nenkureka.

The Rejoice hit maker couldn’t hide her overwhelmed feelings towards the competition to Tukabyine.com.

“For real I didn’t know that I have such huge and amazing fans in Rusizi who can even try everything from posts to singing along with me to show some love” says Knowless.

She added that I hope this ballistic performance and support from my fans I started with continues until I win the competition.

Diva Knowless boasts of songs like Amampingu y’ urukundo, Rejoice and Nzabampari and hails from Kina Music recording studio.

It is also estimated that Knowless might win the trophy this time given the fact that she is the only female artists in the competition and more to that PGGSS had been won by male artists previously.

Primus Guma Guma Super Star

That Primus Guma Guma Super Star’s reputation is on a free fall is no issue to debate whatsoever. After a lot of careful planning and endless preparations for the country’s biggest reality TV show, the efforts put into it seem like an exercise in futility as more and more people continue to express their disgruntlement as to how they are finally executed. The writings have been on the wall. From bribery claims by artistes to vote rigging, the oddities of this competition keep on recurring and reproducing anew. Just recently it was announced that voters can now use their sim cards as many time as they wish per day to vote for their favorite candidates, something that has been taken as another blunder from the organizers. So, what can Bralirwa and East African Promoters (EAP), the two biggest organizers, do in order to restore faith in the public? Here tukabyine.com examines three major overhauls that could revolutionize the once respected reality TV show.

1. 1.      Take a break

Perhaps the boldest step to take by the organizers, taking a short break for let’s say one or two years would enable them to re-examine at the past mistakes made and look into a possible way of rectifying them. It would also send a cold shiver down the spines of the artistes who have benefited from the millions of Rwandan francs injected into the competition, which would subsequently mean musicians will no longer have to work hard with the sole aim of making it into the completion.

1. 2.      Voting

This is one area that has been heavily criticized by the public following allegations of mass rigging. I know mobile telecommunication companies make billions of Rwandan francs from the voters’ daily text messages, but this method only adds to speculation of rigging. The only trusted way would be through the use of internet, where voters can even see for themselves how their favorite candidates are faring. The only problem is that asking Bralirwa and EAP to withdraw the text message voting method would be tantamount to a “felony” but that is the best and trusted means that would leave the public fully satisfied.

1. 3.      Nomination – same old story

It was perhaps deejay Adams of City Radio who broke the egg. The notorious radio presenter publicly declared that he was among a cliché of journalists who had received bribes in order to give the go-ahead to some musicians who did not have the merit to make it into the competition. Well, it has been happening over and over, so nothing is going to change come next season. The most pragmatic way of dealing with this issue would be to introduce a jury that would take charge of the nominees and see if they march the criteria laid out by the organizers. It’s useless setting out the threshold that musicians must meet in order to be nominated, only to find that three thirds of them fall short of the standards.

Magic FM radio presenter Tidjara Kabendera has hit out at her counterpart from Isango Star FM Mike Karangwa, accusing him of unprofessionalism following the latter’s utterances at his weekly show dubbed Sunday Night. In a twist of events, Tidjara had taken to her Facebook account alleging that US based Rwandan musician Meddy lacks what it takes to be taken as a serious musician. The comments at the time drew a vast debate and many questioned her code of conduct. This prompted the Isango Star to initiate a debate in which he conclusively accused Tidjara of misconduct as a public figure.

But according to Tidjara, her Facebook account had been hacked at the time and she goes on to claim that Mike fell short of professional standards when he refused to call her and hear her version of the story. The female star said, “When I heard about the developments I personally sent a text message to Mike. At the time the show was still on and I would have clarified the matter but he refused to call me and instead made it look like I was the “bad guy.” My account had been hacked by an unknown person. I even tried to log in several times but it was all in vain.”

Tidjara also made no hesitation in showing contempt towards Mike and the whole show in general saying how despicable it was for them to paint such a bad image of her. She added, “Why in the whole world would I post such comments on my Facebook wall? I have total respect for Meddy and the fact that people saw what had been posted on mywall is a clear indication that something was fishy. I am totally disappointed in him (Mike) and the show in general.”

She then went ahead to confirm that she had left the social network site altogether in an attempt to clear her public image.

He said, “When I took over the boys, we struck an agreement that I would help them well known in the region. I also promised them that I would help them win at least a music award. Right now the only recognized award we have is the Salax Awards. We achieved that because they won it. For me I think what I did with them satisfies me enough.”

Although it was reported Urban Boyz demanded the termination of the contract, Muyoboke was quick to dismiss the reports as unfounded, only saying that it was time for him to part ways with them. He said, “I can give you good examples of successful coaches in football who decide to resign from their positions even though they have been successful. It’s not a must that you stick with someone simply because things are working out.”

Meanwhile unconfirmed reports continue to circulate in local tabloids alleging that prior to the termination of the contract, Muyoboke had sought a twenty percent increment to the one he was getting from Urban Boyz, which at the time stood at thirty percent.

They went fully armed and firing on all cylinders to draw as much support as they could from their fans. Yes, the first road show of Primus Guma Guma Super Star finally kicked off in Rusizi, Western Province where all eleven contestants had a chance to showcase what they are made of. From the songbird Knowless to newcomers like Mico The Best, artists tried to impress their fans but it was Senderi International Hit who, undoubtedly, was the shining star of the day.

The writings were on the wall all along. Way before he made it to stage, placards bearing his name were all over: from young children to old, they all showed their unwavering support for the star, who has quickly become a household name. Senderi’s fame cannot be disputed whatsoever. His songs, easy to dance and sing along, have suddenly hit the airwaves of almost radio station in the country, and he has already started sending fears down the spines of his competitors.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for the next road show in Nyamagabe, Southern Province and the majority of the contestants have acknowledged to have learnt from the first road show. Speaking to tukabyine.com, one of them said, “It was the first road show, and for me it was the first time to be included in the competition. I have learnt a lot and hopefully during the next road show I will improve a lot.”

Primus Guma Guma Super Star is a competition organized by Bralirwa in collaboration with East African Promoters. It brings together already established musicians who compete in different road shows, both live and playback, with the winner going home with a cash prize of 26m Rwf. The third edition will also see the other four contestants also rewarded with prizes ranging from 3.5m to 1m Rwf.

Meddy has denied reports of any row between him and Magic FM radio presenter Tidjara Kabendera, after the latter publicly condemned him of being inept in music. Tidjara had taken to social website Facebook to accuse Meddy of being incompetent and non-original in his compositions. Thereafter comments from different sections of people suggested the female radio presenter had gone overboard with her assertions, but she remained adamant and insisted that Meddy uses other artists’ beats to make his own music.

Meddy, who is in USA, was contacted to comment on the issue, but the soft spoken star only said that he had never heard of the comments.

“I can only say I was very busy and I never heard of the comments. Right now I am concentrating on my studies and my music and that is all that matters,” said Meddy.

Tidjara is a countrywide celebrated radio presenter who has worked for the country’s largest listened to radio, radio Rwanda for a long spell. She also holds the same post for Magic FM, another branch of the same radio. Already critics have started accusing her of defamation of character, while others have suggested she might be dragged to courts for trying to publicly tarnish the image of another person.

Adams was speaking at a press conference on Thursday 9^th May 2013, organized by Bralirwa, the main sponsors of PGGSS, when he surprisingly accused the media fraternity of constantly receiving bribes in different forms from musicians. He said, “I can tell you that there are contestants in PGGSS this year who gave out money so that they can be nominated.”

His statement did not end right there. Adams went ahead and pointed out fingers, but it is the declaration that he was one of the beneficiaries of the bribes that left everyone in awe. He added, “Danny, Senderi, Mico The Best and Urban Boyz bribed their way into the competition. I can affirm that because I am one of the journalists who received the cash!”

The allegations couldn’t have been timely. Already the eleven contestants have taken off to Rusizi, where the first road show will take place on 11^th May 2013.
