West Africa’s hip hop star Didier Awadi is set to thrill Rwandese in the upcoming music festival dubbed Kigali up 3rd edition.

The 45 years old rapper will grace Kigali UP festival this month July 19th-20th at Amahoro stadium alongside other music icons from Africa.

While speaking to Kigali UP organizer Mighty Popo aka Murigande live on KT Radio 96.7 confirmed the rapper’s presence in the festival.

“We are bringing rapper Didier Awadi to share with us his skills in music and other music icons like Rhonda Benin,” says Mighty Popo.

Popo added that, local musicians are expected to exchange ideas, share contacts and mostly learn from legends to boost Rwandan music industry.

Born on August 11, 1969 in Dakar, Senegal as Didier Awadi, formed Positive Black Soul with fellow hip hop musician Duggy Tee with the desire of promoting a positive image of Africa.

In 2003, the rapper received a world music award from Radio France International for his solo album Kaddu Gor meaning ‘word of honor’.

Kigali-UP started way back in 2010 with the aim of show casing local talents globally as well as promoting local music through stage performances.

The music festival also acts as a platform for regional, international and local artistes where they meet and share music experiences.

Local artistes slated to perform include rappers Riderman, Jay Polly, Christopher, Focus, Ras Kayaga and Jule Sentore.
